Wildfires

In anticipation of this upcoming wildfire season and potential impacts to our county, we ask that you prepare. Now is the time to prepare your own Ready, Set, Go Plan!

Ready – Go to www.mcalert.org and sign up for the County Emergency Alert System, MCALERT. Review the County Emergency Alert Map, at www.maderaaware.com. Know what zone you live in. Work on strengthening your home by creating defensible space and selecting fire resistant plans. You can learn more at https://readyforwildfire.org/prepare-for-wildfire/

Set – Work on your emergency plan at home. Make sure everyone in your home knows what is needed to do if you must evacuate quickly. Prepare your family for that moment when it is time to go. Pack your go bag. Your “Go Bag” should have items like essentials and personal documents.

Go – Follow your emergency plan. Link up with your loved ones and leave the area as requested by emergency responders. Don’t forget your pets as well. Be sure to have a plan to contact friends and family to let them know you have evacuated safely.

Madera County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services (OES) will continue to work collaboratively with our allied partners in the Emergency Operations Center. Our highest priority is to manage these incidents robustly and efficiently to mitigate its effects on our community. Our goal is to bring these incidents to a conclusion as soon and as safely as possible.

In the event of a wildfire, Sheriff’s OES will work with the Department of Social Services, Public Health, and American Red Cross to deploy resources and develop shelter locations.

Madera County Sheriff Tyson Pogue remarks, “We urge our community members to remain vigilant and alert during the ongoing wildfire season. The most important steps residents can take to be prepared are to 1) “Know Your Zone” and 2) sign up for emergency alerts through MCAlert. By keeping themselves informed, it allows first responders to more effectively respond when an emergency strikes. During a wildfire, seconds count- prepare now.”
