SOCIAL DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH
Social determinants of health are the conditions in which people live, learn, work, and play that affect a range of health outcomes. The social determinants of health are made up of five key areas:
- Education Access and Quality
- Economic Stability
- Neighborhood and Built Environment
- Social and Community Context
- Health Care Access and Quality
HEALTH BEHAVIORS
Health behaviors are actions individuals take that can affect their health. Health behaviors are influenced by family, community and social context, these behaviors can be changed.
Positive behaviors such as a balanced diet, daily exercise, and getting the recommended amount of sleep is considered protective behaviors while unhealthy behaviors are considered risky behaviors.
HEALTH STATUS AND OUTCOME
Health status of an individual refers to the level of health for that individual. A health outcome refers to the change in health status due to chronic disease, infectious disease, or other factors. Both are important measurements that determine the health of an individual and a community.
- Chronic Diseases: Cardiovascular Disease, Stroke, Cancer, Asthma, Obesity, and Diabetes.
- Infectious Diseases: Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STIs), HIV, COVID-19, Vaccine Preventable Diseases, Valley Fever.
- Other Factors: Mental Health, Oral Health.
