UPDATE: The ZipBooks program for this period has ended! Thank you to all who have participated in the program! Over 400 new titles were added to the Madera County Library system's collection!
For the time being, no more ZipBooks request will be taken by Madera County Library.
The next round of the ZipBooks program has been announced, https://www.library.ca.gov/grants/zip-books/, and Madera County Library is currently in the application part of the process. If the program returns to Madera County Library, we will make announcements when that time comes.
Madera County Library currently has access to a free interlibrary loan option called Zip Books which allows the library to purchase items that we do not have in the catalog.
How Zip Books Process Works:
- Request a Zip Book at the circulation desk of any branch of the Madera County Library or online. You will need to have your library card ready!
- The requesting patron must be a Madera County resident.
- Any books in regular print format, large-print format, or audiobooks on CD that the Madera County Library System does not yet own – and that are not current, regular print fiction New York Times bestsellers – may be requested as Zip Books. DVD’s and music CDs are not eligible for this program.
- Item ships directly to your address via amazon.com (must be available for $50 or less for books and $75 or less for audiobooks).
- Limit of 3 items* per person per month. Patrons will be able to request one book at a time and must return their Zip Book before they can request another. *Monthly limit is subject to change*
- Zip Books will be checked out to your Madera County Library account for 3 weeks.
- Zip Books are subject to our normal late fees & fines.
NOTE: As Madera County Library has limited access to unique cataloging, this means we will be more selective with what request we approve. Items should be published within the last 10 years, part of a series that we may already own part of (i.e., we don’t have book 1 of a series in the Madera County system, but we have later books in the same series), and the record must be available within OCLC or WorldCat for us to get the cataloging information.
Returning your Zip Book:
- When you are finished with the item, please return it and the enclosed packing slip from Amazon, if available, separately in a disposable bag in one of our book drops. Please be sure to include a note with your name and “ZIP RETURN” written or taped to the outside of the bag.
- After returning your Zip Book, you are eligible to request another Zip Book up to 3 times per month*. *Monthly limit is subject to change*
- At the Library’s discretion, the book will be added to the library collection for further checkout or donated to the Friends of the Madera County Library.
