What is a school resource deputy?
The school resource deputy (SRD) is a carefully selected, specifically trained, and properly equipped full-time law enforcement deputy with sworn law enforcement authority, trained in school-based law enforcement and crisis response, assigned by the employing law enforcement agency to work in the school using community-oriented policing concepts.
The responsibilities of SRD's are similar to regular deputies in that they have the ability to make arrests, respond to calls for service, and document incidents that occur within their jurisdiction.
While an SRD's primary responsibility is law enforcement, whenever possible, SRD's strive to employ non-punitive techniques when interacting with students.
