About

The Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT) Youth Coalition was created by and for Madera County youth to lead the movement against tobacco use. Since its inception in January 2019, SWAT members have been actively addressing tobacco control issues affecting their community through outreach, policy change, and service.

Target Issues

Youth access to flavored tobacco
Youth tobacco use prevention
Smoke-free multi-unit housing

Get involved

SWAT members benefit from: building leadership and public speaking skills, boosting their resume, earning letters of recommendation, going on field trips like summer camp and Youth Quest, and meeting other teens that are active in their community.

All motivated youth in Madera County ages 13-18 are encouraged to join. Getting involved is easy!

Activities 2019

Press Event: SWAT members Maria Ramirez and Anahi Perez at the press event discussing the new smoke and vape free parks ordinance. The sign below will be posted in City of Madera parks to notify residents about the new policy.[October 2019]

Picnic in the Park: SWAT youth hosted a picnic at Veterans Memorial Park in Chowchilla to discuss the benefits of smoke and vape free parks and get residents’ input on the proposed policy. [September 2019]

SWAT Youth Recognition: SWAT members have dedicated over 500 hours of service over the past year and were recognized by the City of Madera. [September 2019]
