The Comprehensive Perinatal Services program offers a Medi-Cal reimbursement mechanism for enhanced perinatal care services, which include nutrition, health education, psychosocial services, and prenatal vitamins and minerals. Services are delivered during the postpartum period, as well, to address the client’s full spectrum of needs. Pregnancy and birth outcomes improve when this model is utilized for assessments and reassessments in a client-centered way, that is individualized for each client and based on their strengths, through a multidisciplinary approach, that is culturally sensitive and respects their values, beliefs, and traditions. Linkages to some services in the community are required and others are encouraged to enhance the client’s care. Client participation is voluntary.
