Simon Paul, M.D.

Dr. Paul started with Madera County Department of Public Health Feb. 6, 2020.  He completed his medical training at Cornell University Medical College in New York City, and residency training in internal medicine at Parkland Hospital, Dallas Texas. He then completed an NIH sponsored physician-scientist research fellowship at Rockefeller University studying responses to intracellular infections including tuberculosis, coxiella, toxoplasmosis and trypanosomiasis. Dr. Paul’s clinical work thereafter focused on the HIV/AIDS epidemic. His work in the area of HIV has spanned the time from before treatment was available to the current era of extremely effective treatments.

Over the last several years his work has increasingly focused on the public health aspects of HIV infection, including prevention, linkage to care and working to end the HIV epidemic.

He has worked in the Central Valley area since 2003, most recently as Professor of Clinical Medicine and Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs at UCSF-Fresno, and as Medical Director of the Community Regional Medical Center’s HIV program which cares for over 1,300 patients in Fresno.

He is very excited about this opportunity to broaden his work to all aspects of public health important to Madera County.
