Madera Transit Station Specific Plan
Description
The Madera Transit Station Specific Plan (MTSP) will be a new specific plan that re-envisions over 2,000 acres of County of Madera land just southeast of the City of Madera into a vibrant, mixed-use neighborhood centered around the Madera Community College and the forthcoming relocated San Joaquins Madera Station along Avenue 12 that is being implemented by the San Joaquin Joint Powers Authority. The MTSP will explore land use and transportation concepts to create a village framework for the plan area, combining residential at various densities, public uses, commercial, and employment-generating uses. A major component of the plan area is the arrival of High-Speed Rail service at the new Madera Station, which is expected to transform the area into a regional destination and connection point. The MTSP is being created to ensure that the new potential growth and development that follow completion of the new station will create human-scaled spaces and sustainable environments in this undeveloped area of the county.
The MTSP will build off the prior 1995 Madera State Community College Specific Plan that provided a development framework appropriate for its time. This new, updated plan will incorporate transit-oriented development principles, multimodal connectivity, economic development, and sustainable placemaking.
