Madera County Environmental Health Division is the permitting and enforcement agency for construction and destruction of water wells within Madera County, including but not limited to: community water supply wells, individual domestic wells, industrial wells, agricultural wells, cathodic protection wells, electrical grounding wells, test and exploratory holes, and observation/monitoring wells.

*Only persons who possess an active C-57 Water Well Contractors License may perform construction, reconstruction or destruction work on wells.

To schedule an annular seal appointment, please ensure to provide a minimum of 48 hour notice. The annular seal appointment may be scheduled by contacting the Water Wells Permitting Program at (559) 675-7823 ext 4.

Executive Order N-7-22

On March 28^th, 2022 Governor Newsom signed Executive Order N-7-22 extending the Drought Emergency Proclamations of April 12,2021, May 10, 2021, July 8, 2021 and October 19, 2021. The order requires new or alteration of existing Ag wells to receive written verification by the Groundwater Sustainability Agency. This does not apply to wells that will provide less than 2 acre-feet per year of groundwater for individual domestic uses or public water systems.
