The Madera County Environmental Health Division conducts annual inspection of detention facilities throughout the County of Madera including the Madera County Jail, court holding facilities and juvenile hall under the authority of the Health and Safety Code § 101045 using the checklists provided under Title 15 of the California Code of Regulations (CCR).

The inspection includes, but is not limited to, inmate clothing and personal hygiene, issue of personal care items, bedding/linens, facility sanitation, safety/maintenance, and food preparation kitchen.

The Public Health conducts the medical/mental health and nutritional health portion of the inspection.

The California Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC) has ultimate enforcement authority for deficiencies at local detention facilities.
