You can help reunite a lost pet with their owner!  Here’s how:

Post the found pet on Madera Animal Services Lost and Found Facebook page by submitting a Found Report. Please be sure to include a good photo of the dog or cat, as well as the location in which it was found and your contact information—your information will not be made public unless you authorize us to do so.

Important note:

This report does not constitute a legal stray holding period. It is simply a courtesy post to advertise found pets.

Check for a collar and tags, and your surrounding area for possible owners.

Take the animal to the shelter or your local veterinarian to have it scanned for a microchip. There is no charge for this service, and if the pet has a microchip, they will be able to give you the chip ID number and manufacturer of the chip.  The chip manufacturer should be able to put you in contact with the registered owners of the pet.

If the animal has a microchip and you need help locating the owner, contact our office for assistance at (559) 675-7891.

We do not recommend giving lost/stray animals to adopters, fosters, or rescues, as this may actually make it more difficult to reunite the pet with its rightful owner. If you have an adopter or rescue interested in taking the pet, we can assist with transfer after a legal stray hold. If you reunite the pet with its owner, or if the pet goes missing from your care, please call MCAS at (559) 675-7891 to let us know, therefore we can update the listing on the animal.

Search Lost Reports on:

  • Check Craigslist in the Pets section AND the Lost & Found section and post lost ads in both sections.
  • Make found pet flyers and post them in the area where the pet was found.  Ask local businesses if you can post them in their windows or on bulletin boards.  Make sure your phone number is readable!
  • Email a flyer to local shelters and rescue groups to spread the word, ask them to post it on their Facebook pages! Pay attention to flyers in the area where the pet was found.  His/her owners might have posted lost flyers.
