Rusty Lantsberger, Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer of Weights & Measures
To Promote and Protect
The goal of the Madera County Department of Agriculture is to promote and protect the agricultural industry of Madera County. Our office is dedicated to protecting California agriculture from the spread of destructive pests, promoting the safe and responsible use of pesticides to allow for the protection of crops, and protecting human health and the environment.
The Weights and Measures Division is responsible for enforcing weights and measures laws and regulations to protect consumers and businesses. This includes inspecting and testing weighing and measuring devices used to verify weight, volume, length or count in commercial transactions. Transactions derived from the use of such devices are also inspected for accuracy, such as, correct pricing, correct quantity, and for some products, quality. Inspections may be conducted at such places as service stations and grocery stores. In addition to inspection activities, weights and measures officials provide education and training to the public as well as the regulated industries.
