What is WIC?
WIC is a supplemental nutrition program that helps pregnant women, new mothers, and young children eat well and stay healthy (Print a WIC brochure)
What are the goals of the WIC program?
- To decrease the complications of pregnancy
- To prevent low birth weight babies
- To decrease iron deficiency anemia
- To promote and support breast feeding
- To improve the health of participants during critical times of growth and development
What can I get at WIC?
- Nutrition education
- Supplemental foods
- Help with breast feeding
- Referrals for medical care and other services
- The specific nutritious foods provided to participants include milk, cheese, eggs, peanut butter, iron-fortified cereal, juices, whole grains, fruits and vegetables, larger food packets for exclusively breast-feeding women
Whom can WIC help?
Persons who are:
- Pregnant, breast feeding, or just had a baby
- Children under 5 years old including foster children
- Families with a low to medium income (185% or less of the federal poverty level) Working families may qualify
- WIC Income Guidelines as of 5/1/20
How do I apply for WIC services?
Call to make an appointment and find out which documents you need to bring with you. At your appointment, WIC staff will check to see if you and your family qualify.
